The Asian Underwater Hockey Championships is the most eagerly anticipated underwater hockey games in the region. Held once a year, the tournament draws teams from Asian countries who field their best players in the competition.
Last year, the Philippine Underwater Hockey Confederation (PUHC) competed against Singapore and Japan and bagged the gold in all three divisions - men's, women's, and mixed. This year, preparations are underway for the most exciting tournament yet.
On November 21-23,2008, the Philippines will play host to the 2nd Asian Underwater Hockey Championships (AUHC) which will be held in Fort Bonifacio at the Army Wellness Center. After last year’s amazing turnout wherein the Philippine contingent headed by veteran player Alex Colet brought home the gold medals in all three divisions (men’s, women’s, and mixed), it is time for them to show that they excel at both playing the game and organizing it as well. The 2 nd AUHC, presented by the Philippine Underwater Hockey Confederation (PUHC), Speedo and Beach Hut, will be joined by players from all over the region including Singapore and Japan, with special participation of players visiting from Australia. This year’s contingent will be headed by PUHC president Nix Arroyo.
